Labor Day 2024: List of fun happening around Louisville this weekend
SEPTEMBER 10TH AT MALE HIGH SCHOOL. WELL, WORLD FEST RETURNS TO LOUISVILLE THIS WEEKEND. WE LOVE WORLD FEST, RIGHT? MORE THAN 150,000 FOLKS EXPECTED TO ATTEND OVER THE FOUR DAYS OF THE FESTIVAL, CELEBRATING ALL THE INTERNATIONAL CULTURES THAT MAKE UP THE METRO. THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM HERE WITH US THIS MORNING TO TALK MORE ABOUT WORLD FEST IS NONE OTHER THAN OUR MAYOR, LOUISVILLE MAYOR CRAIG GREENBERG. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING ON THIS MORNING. ALWAYS WONDERFUL TO BE WITH YOU GUYS. PARTICULARLY GREAT WHEN WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A WONDERFUL EVENT LIKE WORLD FEST WORLD FEST IS SUCH A BLAST. AND IT’S AN EVENT THAT SPANS SEVERAL DAYS. SO IT STARTS FRIDAY AND ENDS ON MONDAY. TALK TO US ABOUT WHAT WE CAN EXPECT IN TERMS OF THE ENTERTAINMENT THIS YEAR. WELL, WORLD FEST IS ONE OF OUR REALLY IMPORTANT AND WONDERFUL CITY EVENTS THAT WE HAVE EVERY YEAR FROM FRIDAY TO MONDAY. AND AS YOU MENTIONED, WE DO HAVE GREAT ENTERTAINMENT FROM PEOPLE THAT COME FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD SHOWCASING THE GREAT DIVERSITY AND CULTURES AND NATIONALITIES THAT ARE HERE IN LOUISVILLE WITH OUR GROWING IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY. AND OF COURSE, WHEN THERE’S GREAT ENTERTAINMENT, YOU ALSO NEED GREAT FOOD AND DRINK. AND WE’VE GOT THAT AT WORLD FEST. AS YOU ALL KNOW FROM GOING FOR MANY YEARS, THERE’S IT’S SUCH GREAT FAMILY FRIENDLY, FUN, FAMILY FRIENDLY FUN. I SAID THAT RIGHT. EVEN THOUGH THAT IS A TONGUE TWISTER. SO IT’S A WONDERFUL EVENT. I KNOW MY KIDS AND MY WIFE AND I HAVE ENJOYED GOING FOR YEARS. LONG BEFORE I WAS MAYOR, AND NOW THAT WE’VE GOT TO SEE EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY, IT’S EVEN BETTER THAN I REALIZED. IN ADDITION TO ALL THAT, WE HAVE A PARADE OF CULTURES. THERE’S GOING TO BE A NATURALIZATION CEREMONY. SO THERE TRULY IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. EVERY DAY OF THIS LONG HOLIDAY, LABOR DAY WEEKEND. LISTEN, IT’S RIGHT THERE ON THE BELVIDERE. WLKY IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF WORLD FEST. WE ALWAYS COME OUT THERE AND YOU KNOW, LIKE YOU SAID, IT MAKES UP. IT’S ALL THE CULTURES OF LOUISVILLE, RIGHT. AND IT JUST REALLY SHOWCASES ALL WE HAVE TO OFFER. WHY DO YOU THINK THAT DIVERSITY IS SO IMPORTANT TO SHOWCASE AND HIGHLIGHT IN OUR CITY? WELL, I THINK IT’S SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT ADDS TO THE RICHNESS OF OF WHO WE ARE. I WAS JUST LAST NIGHT WITH FOLKS FROM 17 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES THAT ARE REPRESENTED ON OUR INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL, BECAUSE THE FASTEST GROWING PART OF OUR CITY IS OUR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY, AND PEOPLE ARE TRULY FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. AND EVERY ONE OF THEM, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT FOODS, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT CULTURES, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT DRESS, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT TRADITIONS AND LEARNING FROM ONE ANOTHER. AND EXPERIENCING ONE ANOTHER. I JUST THINK THAT’S SO INTERESTING FOR PEOPLE. IT’S VERY, YOU KNOW, NOT NOT EVERYONE HAS THOSE EXPERIENCES EVERY DAY. WORLD FEST IS ONE OPPORTUNITY WHERE YOU CAN LEARN, ENJOY, BE ENTERTAINED, MEET OTHER PEOPLE AROUND OUR COMMUNITY, ALL IN DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE ON THE BELVEDERE. IT’S A LOT OF FUN. IT’S ALSO AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT JUST FOR ADULTS, BUT YOU GUYS ALSO HAVE AN AREA THAT’S CATERED TO KIDS TO HELP THEM LEARN ABOUT THE DIVERSITY IN OUR CITY. WE HAVE THE KIDS ZONE AS WELL. WE’RE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE’S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE WITH ALL FAMILIES, AND THAT’S WHAT WORLD FEST IS ALL ABOUT. AND THEN OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, LABOR DAY IS A BIG IT’S A TWO BIG EVENTS AND ONE FOR US ON LABOR DAY IN LOUISVILLE, BECAUSE IN ADDITION TO WORLD FEST, THE MORNING STARTS ON LABOR DAY WITH THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR HIKE, BIKE AND PADDLE EVENT. SO I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. ON THE GREAT LAWN AT WATERFRONT PARK AS WELL. IT’S GOING TO BE AN ACTION PACKED WEEKEND SO YOU CAN GET OUT AND GET MOVING. THAT’S RIGHT. AND GET A LITTLE EXERCISE AND THEN GO DOWN TO THE BELVEDERE AND GET YOU SOME REALLY GOOD FOOD. THE FOOD IS FOR ME, THE FOOD IS KIND OF THE HIGHLIGHT. I DON’T KNOW ABOUT. MAYOR. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART? WELL, I LIKE TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY YEAR, SO I SORT OF GO IN NOT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT I’M GOING TO TRY, AND I TRY TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY YEAR. SO WE’LL SEE WHAT IT IS THIS YEAR. BUT IT’S ALWAYS WONDERFUL. IT’S A GOOD CALL. IT’S GOING TO BE A BLAST. WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS OUT THERE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SPONSORSHIP OF IT. WE’RE EXCITED AND YOU’RE GOING TO SEE SOME OF US OUT THERE RIGHT? WE’VE GOT SOME GIVEAWAYS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. SO MAKE SURE YOU STOP AND SAY HI ON YOUR WAY IN. WE’LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YO
