5 things to do this weekend in the Louisville area (2024)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The weekend is upon us, and there are plenty of things to do and see across Kentuckiana.

Here are a selection of events, markets, concerts and more happening Saturday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 1.

Louisville vs. Austin Peay

The Cards kick off college football season at home this Saturday at L&N Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.

Louisville takes on Austin Peay at noon. It's the second season of the Jeff Brohm era.

How to Watch/Listen:TV — ACC Network (Jorge Sedano, play by play; Orlando Franklin, analyst; Morgan Uber, sidelines); Radio — Louisville Sports Properties 93.9 FM/970 AM (Paul Rogers, play by play; Craig Swabek, analyst; Jody Demling, sidelines).

The Line:Point Spread — Louisville favored by 36.5 points; Over/under total points 54.5.

The Last Time:The programs have never played.

The Records:It's the season opener for both teams. The Governors finished 9-3 last season, with a 30-13 loss to Tennessee. The Cards went 10-4, defeating Notre Dame and Miami, before losing their final three games.

Fleur de Flea Labor Day Market

Fleur de Flea Vintage Market is bringing its Labor Day weekend market to Louisville's Waterfront Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The event is free to attend.

It's the largest outdoor Labor Day weekend market at the Waterfront, according to organizers.

More than 200 vendors will be on-hand, including local makers, vintage, collectables, vinyl, books, antiques, vintage clothing, furniture and so much more.

Pets are welcome but must be on a leash.

WorldFest

A celebration of cultures from across the world is on display this weekend in downtown Louisville.

Friday marked day one of the four-day celebration known as WorldFest.

The festival on the Belvedere continues through Monday.

WorldFest showcases international food, music, dancing and more. It also includes over 150 vendors selling art, clothing and goods from around the world.

A parade of cultures with over 1,000 participants will happen at noon Saturday. The event is free to attend and open to all ages.

Whiskey lovers can check out an entire festival dedicated to the spirit this Saturday.

Street closures released for Mayor's Hike, Bike and Paddle on Labor Day in Louisville

Louisville's Watch Hill Proper is hosting the event from 4-10 p.m. at Norton Commons North Village Square, on River Beauty Loop in Prospect.

Organizers promise pours and various expressions from renowned distilleries like Jack Daniel's, Heaven Hill, Angel's Envy, Bardstown Bourbon Co., Green River Distilling, Bushwood Spirits, Kentucky Peerless, New Riff Distilling, Buzzards Roost Whiskey, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, Red Line Whiskey Co. and more.

There will also be food trucks on-hand and live music.

The event is free for all ages, but tickets to access the Whiskey Garden are $50. VIP passes cost $200.

St. Jude Dream Home Open House

Take a tour of this year's St. Jude Dream Home this weekend! Open house weekends for the house started last weekend and will continue this weekend, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Raffle tickets for the Dream Home Giveaway went on sale in July, and are still available.

The open house weekends run every Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 22. The tours are free and no ticket is required. For more information about the tours,click here.

The 4-bedroom, 2,900 sq. ft. home, built by Fischer Homes, is valued at approximately $485,000, and is located at 2124 Quail Ridge Drive in LaGrange.

Other amenities include:

  • Foster Pacific Craftsman
  • Gourmet kitchen that opens to family room with fireplace
  • Private owner’s suite with luxury shower
  • Walk-in closets in all 4 bedrooms
  • Spacious upstairs loft
  • First-floor study

A total of7,500 tickets sold out last year, but this year 8,000 tickets are available for $100 each. And 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The money helps support patients and their families, so don't have to worry about paying for treatment, travel, housing or food.

Fischer Homes has partnered with St. Jude for 19 years to bring together contractors, building professionals and volunteers to construct the home. This is the fifth year that WDRB has partnered with St. Jude for the giveaway that has raised $3.4 million so far.
